Face Masks

Face masks were one of those things that I didn’t really get into until this past year and I kick myself for not getting into them sooner. I would use them on and off but really didn’t love them as I do now. As I have gotten older my skin has become even drier and I find myself reaching for face masks much more frequently and in return they have really done wonders for my skin.

I picked up the Lush Oatifix Fresh Face Mask a month ago and I am already a die hard fan. I was recommend the product by a lovely blogger named Andrew James during one of the weekly chats and I couldn’t be more thankful. The mask has banana, almonds and oats which is perfect for dehydrated skin like mine. You just apply it to your face, leave it on for 10 minutes and wash off with warm water and you can instantly see the difference that it makes to your skin. This is great for when your skins quite dry and really needs that boost of moisture and it also smells good enough to eat!

The Korres Greek Yoghurt Advanced Nourishing Sleeping Facial* is a new favourite of mine that I have been trying out for the past few weeks. Unlike the Oatifix by Lush, this mask you can keep on overnight and don’t need to wash off. I love this because the Greek yoghurt is very hydrating, but it isn’t heavy or greasy on the skin. It has a very nice, light fragrance as well that is really pleasant and the mask soaks into the skin effortlessly. I use this on a nightly basis and when I wake up I can still feel that my skin is moisturized unlike some other masks that I have tried. It has made my skin feel so much smoother and plumper which is amazing for someone which such dry skin as myself. I have to say, I’m really impressed!

Now that the colder weather is approaching I highly recommend picking up some face masks to keep your skin moisturized and nourished. You will see after just a few uses just how much of a difference they make, and who doesn’t want to treat their skin to a little treat every now and then?

Glamorous Eyes with Mary Kay

Since Fall is right around the corner I have found myself putting away all of my brighter eyeshadows and lip colours in exchange for more sultry shades. I wanted to create a look that would be perfect to wear on a night out, to a party or just when you want to feel a little glamorous. The Mary Kay palette in Emerald Noir* is perfect for the upcoming season because it has a mix of eye catching jewel tones and gorgeous neutrals. All of the shades are extremely pigmented and blend like a dream.

For the eyes I took the lightest shade and applied that into my crease using a fluffy crease brush as a transition shade. I then went in with the middle shade in the quad which is a beautiful glittery bronze, and patted that into the center of my lid and along my lower lash line. To add some depth into the eyes I took the darkest brown and applied that into my outer corner of my lid. To balance out of all the glitter I went in with Mary Kay’s gel eyeliner in Jet Black* and lined my upper lash line rather heavily and used the Golden Illusion* eyeliner pencil in my waterline. Lastly I finished off with a coat of mascara and some false lashes and applied their lip gel in Cherry Twist* to tie everything together and really give it that glamorous feel.

This look was very simple to create and I hope you try it out for yourself! The palette really makes it easy to create a sultry look in no time at all and I highly recommend it – I’m obsessed!

August Ipsy Bag

I know my review is a little late but I still wanted to get it up for you lovelies! The theme of August’s bag was Beauty Schooled and featured some school necessities if you will. Upon opening this bag, to be honest, I wasn’t thrilled. Ipsy bags have always been hit or miss for me. One month will be great, the next… not so much.

First thing I saw was the Urban Decay Perversion Mascara. There is tons of hype going on in the beauty world about this mascara so I am happy that I was able to test it out and see what all of the fuss was about. When I applied this for the first time I instantly fell in love and that is huge for me. I have really short, sparse lashes and the fact that this gave me length and fullness without looking clumpy is just miraculous. I am most definitely going out and buying the full size of this.

I’ve never really been a dry shampoo user and I have to say I wasn’t surprised to see one in this bag. Dry shampoo is an amazing concept but one I just never jumped into. I am happy that I received one in this bag because I was wanting to give one a try and see how I got on with it. The smell of this is really nice but I found it left a white cast on my hair even after rubbing vigorously. I have quite dark hair so I imagine those with lighter hair wouldn’t have as much of a problem. I may give one of the dark toned shampoos a try and see how it fairs.

It’s no secret that I am not a fan of silicone based primers. I don’t particularly like the “slippy” feel of them and find that my makeup doesn’t go on as nicely when using one. That being said, I do use them from time to time if I feel as if my pores are bad that day and will only apply it to those areas as opposed to my entire face. The Dr Brandt primer has a coloured base to it which disappears into the skin once it’s rubbed it and I will say that it does a good job at masking the pore size, but I wouldn’t say it’s as good as my Benefit Porefessional.

I am always on the hunt for a new lip balm that will actually live up to it’s claims. I have quite dry lips and I am desperately searching for something that will actually make them smooth and soft, and keep them from getting chapped. Unfortunately this lip balm didn’t do miracles for my lips but it smells amazing and is certified organic which is great. I half wonder if my lips don’t get better with using such great ingredients, how will they ever?

Last but not least is an eyeshadow from Jcat Beauty. I love getting eyeshadow in these bags because a girl can never have enough, right? I have an over abundance of gold eyeshadows in my collection but this one is very light and perfect for a subtle wash of colour on the lids for the day time. I haven’t tried using it wet but I imagine it would stand out much more and look even more beautiful. It comes with a little applicator and mirror underneath the eyeshadow which I thought was an interesting touch.

So that was everything from Ipsy’s August bag! It wasn’t the greatest, but it also wasn’t the worst. I received September’s in the mail this morning so I will get my review up before the end of the month – promise!
