Brand Focus: Soap & Glory Cosmetics

I tested out some cult favourite Soap & Glory products and shared my thoughts on my blog!

Soap & Glory is a brand that is all over the blogosphere and I have been a huge fan of their body care for years. Everything from the packaging, the scent and of course, quality, is undeniably luxurious. I was finally able to try their cosmetic offerings and for the longest time have been wanting to share my thoughts on these products, so I am glad to be finally doing so!

Eyebrows are one of my favourite parts of my makeup routine, and they make all the difference in the end result. I’m a broken record, I know! I love testing out different pencils, brow gels, and pomades and the Archery Brow Pencil didn’t disappoint. It is very similar in fashion to my beloved Anastasia Brow Wiz with the 2-in-1 design so I knew I would get along with it. It has a very precise tip which makes creating tiny, natural feather-like strokes a breeze, and then just switch to the other end to brush out your brows. It is a creamier formula, so you truly only need a light hand when applying this or you can quickly go overboard. But, what’s wrong with a bold brow, right?

I loved a good winged eyeliner look, and liquid liners I find are one of the easiest ways to achieve that. I don’t get along with flimsy brush tips, so I always opt for a felt tip option. The SuperCat Eyeliner Pen is aptly named because it was made for creating that gorgeous cat eye effect. It’s not a super fine tipped eyeliner but it’s not overly large either where it’s hard to control. You definitely get a thicker line when using this, but can still create thinner lines with the very tip of the brush. I find that the formula wasn’t as inky black as I like which was a bit of a bummer, and while it does stay put on the eyes pretty well I wouldn’t say it’s reached favourite status.

Mascaras are one of those products that either work for me, or they don’t. I have very thin, short and sparse lashes, so mascaras that have an overly wet formula or are heavy on the lashes just don’t do it for me. Any mascara that promises thick, voluminous lashes I’m all for giving a try. The Thick & Fast HD Mascara promises length, definition, and drama but I personally found that it just fell a bit flat. I really loved how the bristles on one side of the brush were slightly longer so it was really easy to get into the base of the lashes but I didn’t find it gave me the va-va-voom lashes I love. However, this mascara does the trick on those no-fuss makeup days and the fact that it’s not clumpy is a huge plus. If you love a natural looking mascara, this is for you!

Can we just take a moment to admire how gorgeous this bronzer is? The Wonderbronze (how amazing is that name?) has many different coloured powders all pressed into one gorgeous pan. I personally don’t use it as a bronzer, but more of a blush topper and highlight as it is quite shimmery. It’s too dark for my natural skin tone, but it looks killer on the cheekbones when I am rocking a bit of self-tan. This is a must-have in my makeup bag during Spring and Summer! It gives you a really gorgeous radiance that’s to die for!

Sephora Collection Rouge Balms SPF 20 Review + Swatches

Sephora Collection Rouge Balm SPF 20 Sephora Collection Rouge Balm SPF 20

Last year I finally started dabbling into Sephora Collection products, starting with their Cream Lip Stains which are my holy grail liquid lipsticks, and have been pleasantly surprised with every product I’ve tried. Lipsticks are single-handedly my favourite type of makeup products, so I was very excited to try these out.

The Sephora Collection Rouge Balms* ($12.50) are a lightweight and nourishing lipstick balm formulated with SPF 20. Usually, I am not overly impressed with tinted lip balms, mostly because I prefer a bolder punch of colour, but these certainly delivered more that I was expecting. Due to the very creamy and balmy texture, you will need to re-apply these periodically throughout the day to keep the colour looking vibrant. The only shade I was disappointed with out of the collection was Delicate Pink as it wasn’t as pigmented as the other shades which is a shame.

I like the sleek packaging of these lipsticks and that the colour of the packaging correlates with the shade inside the tube. There is also a window on the bottom that shows the product so it’s easy to pick the shade that you want. The fact that this balm has SPF 20 is great for the Spring and Summer months when the sun finally shows it’s face. These aren’t the most hydrating during the colder months, but if you don’t suffer from dry lips (why me?!) then these could work perfectly for you. These glide easily over the lips and are extremely fuss free.

Are these the most innovative and interesting lipsticks on the market? Not at all, but if you’re a fan of sheer balm-like lip products then these Rouge Balms are definitely worth checking out. The added sun protection is a huge plus in my books. However, if you’re more into longer lasting lipsticks that will stay put throughout the day with minimal touchups, then I’d give these a pass. I love using these on minimal makeup days and can definitely see myself reaching for them a lot more during the hotter months.

5 Pixi Beauty Products You Need To Try

5 Pixi By Petra Favourites You Need To Try

As beauty lovers, we are always trying to find the latest and greatest products to splurge our hard earned pennies on. So many new items hit the shelves every day and with each new release, it can be overwhelming to say the least. You never know what could ultimately end up being your new holy grail product, or turn out to be a total dud. I have been a fan of Pixi for over a year now and have tried and tested quite the selection of their beauty offerings and wanted to share 5 Pixi Beauty products worth trying out.

    Glow Tonic

Let’s start with skincare, shall we? I am sure if you are an avid beauty blog reader that you have seen this product pop up quite a few times on your feed. The Pixi Glow Tonic is an exfoliating facial toner that is formulated with glycolic acid which removes dead skin cells from the skin. It truly is as easy as soaking a cotton pad, running it over your face and neck and you have an instantly radiant complexion. It’s gentle enough to use on an everyday basis and it’s alcohol-free. Bonus!

    Makeup Fixing Mist

Since we are talking about glowing skin, I will introduce the Pixi Makeup Fixing Mist. I am a huge lover of makeup setting sprays, and this one is lovely. The rose water and green tea hydrate the skin (you can imagine how incredible this smells) while keeping all of your creams and powders in place. It’s great to mist over the face before and after you apply your makeup as it gives a nice subtle glow to the skin making it look healthy. Excuse me while I give my face a bit of a refresh!

    Beauty Blush Duo

Now I am all about multi-purpose products, and Pixi’s Beauty Blush Duo‘s are fantastic. You get a blush and highlight in one convenient palette and it even comes with an amazingly soft kabuki brush to boot. The powders have a lovely soft sheen to them that livens up the face and they apply so beautifully onto the cheeks without any patchiness. I have the shade Peach Honey which on one side has a peachy pink nude blush and a beige champagne highlighter with the slightest hint of pink to it on the other. I can’t wait to pick up some of their other duo’s!

    Lash Line Ink

On a day to day basis, I prefer to use liquid eyeliners as they are so quick and easy to apply. The Pixi Lash Line Ink is a super black, waterproof liquid liner with a very fine felt tip which makes creating that cat eye a breeze. I’ve tried many different liquid eyeliners over the years and this one is my favourite budget friendly option. I like that you can use the side of the felt tip to thicken up your liner, and the very tip to get those thin precise lines. I really hope they come out with some more colours in the future!

    Lengthy Fiber Mascara

I have a whole in-depth blog post dedicated to this product on my blog (here) if you are wanting to check it out, but the Pixi Lengthy Fiber Mascara is the only fiber mascara that I’ve tried and actually got along with. I love to use this when I am wanting standout lashes without the falsies and it really does the trick. It has a curved brush which makes it really easy to get into the base of your lashes and build up the volume and length. The mascara has fibers in it, unlike others where the fibers are separate, and I find that I like that so much more. Definitely a mascara worth trying if you’re really wanting dramatic lashes.

There are so many more products that I truly love and I will definitely be coming out with another post on some more Pixi Beauty products that you need to add to your collection soon! I hope you found this post helpful and will give the brand a try!

Goof Proof Brows with Benefit Cosmetics

Benefit Cosmetics Goof Proof Brow Pencil Easy Shape & Fill

Benefit Cosmetics Goof Proof Brow Pencil Easy Shape & Fill

Benefit Cosmetics Goof Proof Brow Pencil Easy Shape & Fill

I may be a little late to the party sharing my thoughts on one of Benefit’s newest brow offerings, but how can I not? Over the years I’ve really noticed the importance of doing your brows because they truly make all the difference. They frame your face and eyes and are the perfect companion to your gorgeous makeup look. When I was first starting out with makeup I hardly touched my brows at all, leaving them au natural or just with a bit of tinted wax run through them. How the times have changed! Filling in my brows is now a step that I never skip out on.

On a day to day basis, I love using brow pencils for their ease of application and the Benefit Goof Proof Brow Pencil does just the trick. They give you a more natural looking brow which is what I personally prefer during the day-time. I have to say that Benefit is absolutely killing it with the packaging on their new brow products and it completely drew me in. I’m a sucker for great packaging, what can I say?

This pencil is double-ended and comes with the brow product on one side and a spooly on the other. The pointed tip makes it really easy to shape out the underside and tail of your brow, and the wider part is good for filling in any sparse areas. The spooly is great if you are a bit heavy-handed and need to blend out the product and also for putting your brows back into place.

You can never go wrong with having a really good eyebrow pencil in your makeup bag and Benefit knows how to do brows well! I have also really been loving their Ka-BROW pomade recently, which I will be talking about very soon, on the days when I want those perfectly carved out Instagram-worthy brows.

What are your staple eyebrow products?

    Bite Beauty Discovery Set

Bite Beauty Discovery Set | The Beauty Collective

Bite Beauty Discovery Set | The Beauty Collective

Bite Beauty is a brand that never fails to disappoint me, but it’s also one I don’t get to indulge in often. When I came across this set at Sephora I knew I had to grab it because what better time to treat yourself than during the holidays? The Bite Beauty Discovery Set comes with four of their best selling products ($82 CAD value) for you to try out for only $45. But right now Sephora has this kit on sale for only $32 – that’s the price of one of their full-size lipsticks. If you have been wanting to try Bite Beauty products for a while then now is the time to do it! There is a mix of deluxe and full-size products in this kit, and they are all fantastic.

    Agave Lip Mask

I have wanted to try their Agave Lip Mask for a while as I heard such great things about it, and I am happy to report that I am really liking it so far. It has quite a thick formula that really sticks onto your lips for hours, even through drinking. I put this on in the morning and it is still on and keeping my lips hydrated hours later. Even the fiance has taken a liking to this, so I think I’ll be investing in the full-size very soon. Also, it smells absolutely phenomenal which is always an added bonus.

    Amuse Bouche Lipstick

Now onto the oh-so-coveted Amuse Bouche Lipstick which I am sure most of you have heard about in the blogosphere. This lipstick has a creamy formula that is so luxurious on the lips and has a lemon meringue scent to it that is so utterly delectable. The shade in the kit is called Beetroot, which is a lovely deep berry red shade that is perfect for the holidays. Since the formula is so creamy as it is packed with hydrating oils, it leaves a nice sheen to the lips and doesn’t dry them out. These lipsticks are a treat for your lips!

    Line & Define Primer

This product pairs perfectly with the lipsticks in this kit, specifically because Bite Beauty is known for their rich and creamy formulas. This lip primer will prep and moisturize your lips before applying your lipstick and keep them from feathering outside your lip line. I haven’t tried it long enough to know if it really makes a difference in the wear time of my lipstick, but I will gladly report back with my findings. It has a lovely mint scent to it and is formulated with jojoba and argan oil which makes the lips feeling soft and smooth.

    Matte Creme Lip Crayon

I am a huge fan of the Bite High Pigment Pencils, so I was extremely excited to try out their new Matte Lip Crayons. I have been really into wearing matte lipsticks lately and this shade is right up my alley. Leche is a dusty pale pink shade that’s perfect for everyday wear and has looked great with every makeup look I’ve paired it with. It isn’t your traditional matte lipstick where it dries down completely and makes your lips feel chapped, but rather it leaves behind a slightly tacky feeling and is more of a demi-matte in my opinion. It does cling to dry areas on your lips, so I’d suggest using a lip scrub and prepping them with the lip primer beforehand for best results.

    Quo Cosmetics 2016 Holiday Collection

Quo Cosmetics 2016 Holiday Collection | The Beauty Collective

Quo Cosmetics recently came out with a huge selection of 27 products for their 2016 Holiday Collection and I’m lucky enough to have a few of them to share with you today. I am extremely excited about each of these products as they are such great quality at an affordable price point. If you’re not familiar with Quo Cosmetics, they are a company that sells their products exclusively in Shopper’s Drugmart stores and on their Beauty Boutique website. So if you’re looking for some last-minute beauty gifts (only a few days left until Christmas!) then look no further. Be sure to pick up some treats for yourself as well!

Quo Cosmetics Beauty Brow Eyebrow Kit | The Beauty Collective

    Brow Beauty Eyebrow Kit ($20)

Brows are one step that I don’t like to miss out on because they truly make all the difference in your end look. I can’t believe I used to skip out on them (#throwback to my high school days) because when I don’t do them I feel as if something is missing now. So whether you’re new or seasoned in the brow department, then this product is definitely for you. This kit comes with 3 eyebrow stencils, 3 applicators, 3 brow shades and a wax to keep them in place. There is a browbone highlight, a warm toned shade that’s great for lighter hair, and a darker brown for brunettes.

The brow stencils are made out of flexible plastic so they are easy to maneuver, and they even come with guidelines stamped on them that can help you find your proper shape. For applicators, you get a pair of tweezers, a spooly brush, and an angled brush. You have absolutely everything you need to create the perfect brows all in one place which is so convenient. There’s also some step by step instructions inside and on the back of the palette which will help you get your brow game on point in the New Year! It even comes with a mirror so this is great to bring with you on the go.

Quo Cosmetics Bombshell Contour Palette | The Beauty Collective

    Bombshell Contour Palette ($30)

The name says it all with this contour palette as it will truly give you those bombshell cheekbones that we all want. This trio comes with a contour powder, a highlighter, and a bronzer so it takes all the guess work out of creating the perfect contoured look. If you’re not a fan of shimmer in your face products then you’ll be happy to hear that all three shades are completely matte without any shimmer in sight. As if this kit wasn’t amazing already, it also comes with a contouring sculpting brush and a fluffy angled brush that’s perfect for applying your bronzer and highlight.

The bronzer, although a little too warm for my fair skin, works great for warming up the cheek bones. The contour powder is the perfect cool-toned shade and reminds me a lot of Fawn by Anastasia Beverly Hills which is my go-to contouring shade. The lightest shade works great as a highlight, but also as an undereye setting powder for those fair skinned ladies like myself who can’t get away with yellow powders under the eyes.

Quo Cosmetics Soft Focus Highlighting Palette | The Beauty Collective

    Soft Focus Highlighting Palette ($30)

Now for those who are glow-getters like myself, then this palette will make you swoon. In the same style packaging as the contouring palette, this trio comes with three highlighting shades and two brushes as well. There is a fluffy angled brush, identical to the one from the contour kit, as well as a rounded brush which can also be good for applying blush to the cheeks. They are both very soft and the black handles with the rose gold barrels make them even more beautiful.

The first highlight is a soft neutral shade to smooth and highlight the complexion, the second is a pink pearlescent shade that really pops on the cheekbones, and lastly there is a golden highlight that those that love warmer tones. Each powder is smooth and blends really nicely onto the face and the shimmer isn’t at all overkill. If you prefer to have a more intense highlight, dampen your brush with some setting spray and watch them transform. For $30 you really can’t ask for more!

What product would you like to try from Quo Cosmetics?
