Here & Now Botanicals Aromatherapy |
As I haven’t dabbled much into aromatherapy, though I’ve heard many great things about it, I was very excited to have the opportunity to try out some products from a lovely company based right here in Canada. Here & Now Botanicals specializes in aromatherapy products that will pamper you from head to toe. From skin and body care to mists and oils, each product is handcrafted in small batches out of Vancouver, BC.

The first product that I chose was the Sweet Sassafras Aromatherapy Mist ($15). It has a very light scent, kind of reminiscent of root beer actually, and is said to relieve tension, ease nerves and can also help with symptoms of depression. Recently I have been a bit stressed so I thought this would be the perfect product to try out. It comes in a gorgeous glass bottle (their packaging is amazing) and you just mist it onto your face, into your palms or onto your pillow. I have been using it as a pillow spray before bed and it has really helped to relax my mind before I turn in for the night. My fiance is in love with this as well as he has been working very late nights (sometimes he doesn’t arrive home until 4 am) and said that it really helped relieve any nervous tension and stress that he has been having. This has been a nightly staple for the both of us and as soon as this runs out I’m hopping online to grab another.

The next product is just as lovely as the last, and it is the Uplift Aromatherapy Oil ($15). This too comes in a lovely glass bottle with a rollerball applicator which you just rub on your temples and wrists and it gets to work right away. This product too will help to calm you with it’s beautiful citrus and neroli scent that I have fallen in love with. It can also aid in helping digestion, depression – the list goes on. I love to apply this on my wrists and it really helps to calm down any anxiousness that I am feeling. The packaging is even small enough that you could throw it in your bag and have it with you on the go. I have used up around a quarter of this oil already I enjoy it so much. It gets two thumbs up from the fiance as well.

I am really happy with these two products and can’t wait to explore what else the brand has to offer. I have my eye on the Dream aromatherapy oil as well as some of their other sprays. I am very thankful to have finally had a true aromatherapy experience, and you can check out the full lineup of products on the Here & Now Botanicals website. You won’t be disappointed!

    Chapters Stationery & Home Haul

This set of notebooks from Chapters Indigo are perfect for Spring! See more items on the blog!

Gorgeous Spring stationary and home pieces from Chapters Indigo!

So I asked on Twitter yesterday if stationery hauls were a thing because I would be all over those all day every day and apparently other’s would too. So this is me encouraging you to write also write stationery posts because I need them in my life, really. With that being said, today I am bringing you a stationery and home haul – please let’s make this a thing. So I was browsing online on the Chapters website and came across some really cute pieces that I just had to get. I skipped drove over to my local store and was in absolute heaven, and I’m happy that I was able to pick up a few items that I was eyeing.

The first thing I picked up was this gorgeous set of 3 notebooks and I adore them. In case you didn’t know, peonies are my favourite flower so this purchase was a no-brainer. They are very thin, with ruled pages and are a great size to put in your handbag and carry around with you, especially if a blog post idea strikes and you need to write it down ASAP. That being said, you can’t write down your amazing ideas with a pen, right? I really love this pen with it’s white and mint stripes and gold accents. It has a nice weight to it, writes beautifully and a girl can never have enough pretty pens.

Another item that caught my attention was the Dream Bigger, Darling paperweight. There were so many styles to choose from but I ended up picking up this one and thought it would be a really pretty prop for some blog photos and will also work nicely on my desk. Lastly, I came across these stunning magnets, a pretty random thing to pick up I know, but it was actually a necessity for me. The magnets on my fridge and whiteboard are awful and I am so happy to have some new ones that aren’t an eyesore to look at.

I honestly could have spent hours in the store picking up little bits and pieces but somehow restrained myself. I’m telling you, Chapters is an obsession of mine that I never want to get rid of! I really hope you lovelies liked this post as it’s a bit different, and be sure to let me know if you enjoyed it in the comments!

Did any of these pieces catch your eye? Which ones?

    We’re Engaged!

    We're Engaged!

Something exciting happened to me over the weekend and I really wanted to share this happy news with you all. February 6th marked a very special day as I got engaged to my partner of 9 years. It’s truly crazy to think that he and I have been together nearly a decade, (saying that makes me feel old, haha) and time sure does fly. It almost feels as though no time has passed since we were teenagers, but at the same time, it feels like it’s been a lifetime.

We both have certainly been through ups and down, tough times as well as good, and I truly couldn’t imagine going through it with anyone else. It’s an indescribable feeling knowing that someone wants to spend the rest of their life with you, and you with them. He truly has been a light in my life and has been so loving, supportive of any venture that I have wanted to pursue (especially blogging) and is always there to give me a push in the right direction and I am so thankful.

I’m not great at writing with finesse so I will keep this post short and sweet. I want to thank everyone who gave their best wishes on Twitter and Instagram and we are both so very excited to start this new chapter in our lives together and I can’t wait to see where it takes us. Now the wedding planning begins!

5 Ways To Get (and stay) Motivated

Lacking motivation? These 5 tips will help get you on track to leading a more motivated lifestyle!

As much as I would love to be that girl who has all their entire day planned and organized the night before, the truth is I’m just not. I have always been a leave it to the last minute type of person, but as I’ve gotten older I have tried to set more of a routine for myself which I’ve found really helps me.

But of course, there are still those days when you’re just not feeling it and would rather push the laptop aside in favor of that new TV series on Netflix, I know you’ve been there too. I wanted to share some easy ways that can help get you motivated to get stuff done.

    Write a to-do list.
Having a list will keep you on track and checking off those tasks when you’ve completed them will make you feel great. Make sure you prioritize what projects need your attention now versus later. Getting those big tasks finished and out of your mind will help you to be able to tackle the smaller projects with ease.

    Create a playlist.
I have always loved making playlists, only they were on tapes and cd’s instead of all together in one convenient place – Spotify, I love you. Listening to songs that motivate and get you excited can help you get ready to tackle the day head on. Why not check out the Morning Motivation playlist?

    Get organized.
A clean workspace helps eliminate any distractions that you may have throughout the day. I find that I cannot fully commit to any work unless I have a clean and tidy desk. Tidying up often now will eliminate having to do one big, deep clean later. Trust me, you’ll thank yourself for it later.

    See it, be it.
Pin helpful, motivational and inspiring photos on Pinterest or onto an inspiration board in your office. Always on the go? Set one as your phone, tablet or laptop background. This will also work great if you’re working towards a goal as it will be a constant reminder. Change up the photos frequently to keep things fresh and seeing it will get you into a positive and creative mindset.

    Appreciate how far you’ve come.
Even if you didn’t finish everything that you set out to do today, don’t sweat it! Be happy with what you did accomplish, tomorrow is a new day. Don’t forget to reward yourself for your hard work. Doing so will help keep spur you on and want to keep going.

    How do you stay motivated?

    H&M Home Wishlist

    H&M Home Wishlist

While recently doing some online browsing, I went onto the H&M website and stumbled across some amazing home decor pieces on their site that I would love to incorporate into my living room and office spaces. The affordability of most of these pieces is spectacular and I wish I had of ventured onto their site sooner!

Herringbone Blanket ($59.99) | I like changing up the blankets on my couch from time to time, and this grey and white herringbone blanket will match nicely with my couch. It looks so soft and will be warm for the winter months ahead.

Pineapple Candle ($7.99) | I really don’t have any reason to purchase this other than the fact that it’s a pineapple. I mean really, what more of a reason would you need?

Glass Box ($19.99) | I have seen a few boxes like these around, the most recent being at Chapters, and I love the look of them. This is the most affordable display box that I have found so far, and it will hold most of my jewelry nicely.

Patterned Candles ($5.99) | This cute set of patterned candles will add a nice touch to my living room. It’s a similar pattern to the cushions which helps ties the design together. You can never have too many candles.

Metal Photo Frame ($19.99) | This copper coloured rectangular frame will work perfectly in my home office.  Paired with some other similar coloured pieces I have already I think it will be a great addition. The hardest part will be choosing a photo to go inside!

Porcelain Cat Mug ($6.99) | A random fact about me is that I have a tendency to collect cute mugs. I just can’t help myself when I come across one that has a nice pattern or like this one, an adorable cat face at the bottom of the mug. It also has ears adorning the rim which I think is such a sweet touch. It’s too cute to pass up!

Patterned Cushion ($12.99) | This pretty cushion cover will pair perfectly with the matching set of candles I talked about above. I have been looking for some decorative cushions for my couch and when I came across these I thought they would work perfectly. I love the pattern!

    Makeup Shaming

    Makeup Shaming

There seems to be this ongoing issue on social media, and in real life, that has really compelled me to write a post about it. Makeup shaming is becoming more prevalent lately, especially with the rise of beauty bloggers and vloggers, and social media has made it very easy for individuals to express their opinions openly to a large audience.

When I saw this post on Twitter about Shannon Harris, a beauty Youtuber, recently I honestly couldn’t believe how many re-tweets and favorites it had gotten. The caption of the photo stating “This is why our first date is running a mile around the track to see if you sweat the makeup off” had me completely baffled. When did comments like this become acceptable to say? It doesn’t seem to matter whether a woman has a full face of makeup or is rocking a bare face, there always seems to be someone criticizing their choice.

There seems to be this stigma that makeup is only for those who are unattractive and this couldn’t be further from the truth. As I’m sure you have seen, makeup shamers are very hypocritical. If you wear makeup, you’re unattractive. If you don’t, you’re still unattractive. No matter what you choose, you will be judged. You see photos on Instagram of women who are rocking a full face of makeup and are told that they shouldn’t wear so much. Then you have photos of women rocking their bare face in a selfie and are told that they should put some makeup on. It seems that whether we choose to wear it or not, we are never accepted.

The beauty industry is ever growing and constantly releasing new and innovative products to the market. Have uneven skin tone? Even it out with some foundation. Have a pesky spot you want to hide? Concealer has you covered. Want longer, fuller lashes? Put on a few coats of mascara. The possibilities are endless. Just because a woman chooses to wear makeup doesn’t mean that they are insecure, fake, or have something to hide. It also doesn’t mean that because a person chooses not to wear makeup that they are better than those who do. We aren’t “fake” because we wear makeup, and we aren’t “real” because we don’t. We are just ourselves. Simple as that.

Makeup isn’t a mask, it’s just a way to express yourself as my friend so eloquently put it. At the end of the day, does it really matter that much to someone if we cover a spot with concealer or add some bronzer to enhance our cheekbones? Do the products we apply to our own faces really warrant such negative comments from others? It’s a choice, just like so many other choices we make on a day to day basis. Life is full of them. Why not celebrate everyone’s unique individuality instead? Why do people think it is acceptable to tear other’s down for choices that have nothing to do with them and do not affect them?

I hope my thoughts in this post have come across in the right way, and I really want to end off this post by saying that you are beautiful no matter what. Inside and out. Whether you choose to wear makeup or not doesn’t change that. I saw this quote today and thought it was very fitting: Your value doesn’t decrease based on someone’s inability to see your worth. Whatever you choose to do, let it be for you, not someone else. As long as you are happy and confident that is all that matters. I think we can turn this makeup shaming issue into a positive thing by bringing awareness, creating conversation and supporting one another.

What are your thoughts on makeup shaming, and have you been a victim of it?
