Achieving great looking skin starts with your skincare. I recently received the Clean & Clear Daily Essentials/ Fresh & Clean morning routine to test out and I was very excited to see how this budget friendly line would work with my skin as it is today. I like how they created a three-step system which is great for those who don’t really know where to begin when creating a skincare routine. I used some Clean & Clear products when I was in high school (which feels like forever ago), so today we’re throwing it back to some skincare classics!
The first step in the routine is to cleanse, which will remove makeup and dirt from the face. The consistency of the Foaming Facial Cleanser is very gel-like and while it does have a scent to it, it’s not overbearing. When applying this face cleanser, I like to start with a damp face, which helps the cleanser to foam up. I found two pumps of product is enough to cleanse my entire face. I just massage it in thoroughly, rinse and move on the next step.
Having a drier skin type, I have to be careful which skincare products I use on my skin as to not dry it out further, but I was pleasantly surprised that this cleanser gave my skin that really clean feeling without too much tightness or dryness. I do think their sensitive skin cleanser would have been better suited for my skin type.
The next step is great if you have blemish/acne prone skin. I get the occasional breakout so the Deep Cleaning Astringent is great for treating those annoying spots. Astringent can be drying, so I use it as a spot treatment which I find works great for me.
Salicylic acid is one of the main ingredients in this facial toner, which is used to treat and prevent pimples. Surprisingly this doesn’t have a really strong alcohol smell to it which is something that has kept me away from using astringents in the past. When using this, I pour a small amount onto a cotton pad or Q-tip, apply it on the breakout and the salicylic gets right to work on treating the spot. Using this on my blemishes helped to speed up the healing process and my spots were completely gone within a few days.
The last step in the routine is the face moisturizer which is a step I never skip out on. The Dual Action Moisturizer will moisturize your face while treating acne at the same time. It’s oil-free and contains 0.5% salicylic acid, so be sure to use this only once a day to start off with to prevent drying out your skin.
Sadly, I didn’t find that this moisturizer did a great job at keeping my face hydrated. I use very emollient moisturizers as they work the best with my dry skin type, but if you’re looking for an everyday light moisturizer, and to get rid of blemishes at the same time, then this would be a great choice for you. My boyfriend ended up trying this out for himself and found that it works for him – success!
Now that we’ve talked a bit about the products, I want to talk a bit about my experiences with my skin. Having acne or blemishes can bring down your self-esteem, trust me I’ve been there, and I’ve spent countless hours in front of the mirror examining my skin and finding ‘flaws’ that I didn’t like. I guarantee most of them weren’t as big of a deal as I was making them out to be in the moment. I’ve always had spots come up when I’ve had a particularly stressful week, during that time of the month and even for no reason at all it seems. And that’s okay.
Something I realized as I got older was that no one is looking at my skin as closely as I do myself. I’m sure you’ve heard the saying that you are your own worst critic, and analyzing ourselves that closely isn’t helping us in a positive way. That pimple on my cheek that I thought everyone was looking at? I bet they didn’t even notice it at all. I have learned to accept my skin, temperamental or not because it is a part of who I am, but it’s not all that I am. If you are struggling with your skin, just know that you aren’t alone and there are many resources and products out there at your disposal. You are beautiful, no matter what.
If you’re looking for a budget friendly, easy step-by-step skincare morning regime that takes away all the guesswork then I’d recommend giving Clean & Clear a try. They have a variety of different skincare products/regimes for oily skin, acne prone skin, combination skin, sensitive skin, and pore perfecting. You can check out their full product line-up on the Clean & Clear website and get ready to let everyone see the real you.
