Naked Basics Review

After hearing all of the great things about this palette, I decided to pick it up at Ulta while in the States. I will admit, I have never bought any of the Urban Decay Naked palettes. Crazy, I know. I’ve wanted to, but for some reason never did. I couldn’t pass the Naked Basics palette up since it had such nice every day neutral colours. I do many crazy, out there looks but for my every day makeup I usually keep it more natural looking. Of course I always add a little drama in there like black shadow in the outer v and some voluminous lashes- can’t keep it too simple, right?

The packaging on this new addition to the Naked family is different from all the others. The Naked palette was made of cardboard, the Naked 2 palette was made of metal, and the Naked Basics is made of a rubbery material. I like that this palette locks shut and isn’t flimsy- I hate it when palettes open up and get ruined (sustainable shadow box, anyone?). Some find that the latch is really hard to open, but I don’t find that an issue with my palette. It fits nicely in my hand and is perfect to throw in your purse or makeup bag when traveling. I don’t find it to attract much dirt like some of the other palette’s can, it’s quite easy to wipe clean.

I love that 5 of the 6 shadows are matte. It’s good to get some different textures on the eye instead of just shimmers or glitters like their previous palettes.  I think they hit the nail on the head with this palette, and it will appeal to almost anyone.

  • Venus: Off white / shimmer
  • Foxy: Pale yellow / matte
  • Walk Of Shame: Pale pink / matte
  • Naked 2: Mid-tone brown / matte
  • Faint: Deep, dark brown /matte
  • Crave: Jet black / matte

Out of the 6 shades, four are exclusive to the Naked Basics palette. Foxy you will find in the Naked 2 palette, and Walk Of Shame (W.O.S) you will find in their single form eye shadow. It’s great that you are getting some new shades that you can’t find in any of their other palettes. The pigmentation of these shadows are nice, and they are a great size. I do however find the shadows to be a bit soft and I feel as if it’s a bit of a waste. They blend quite nicely, and look gorgeous on the lid. Urban Decay definitely has the best palettes in my opinion, and I would recommend them to anyone.

The Naked Basics palette retails for $27 USD and can be found at Ulta, Sephora, or the Urban Decay website. They also have some new additions that came out recently such as the Naked Flushed palette, Naked Nail Set, and two new palette’s inspired by the OZ movie coming out. Be sure to check them out!
