YSL Vinyl Couture Mascara

Recently I was given the opportunity from Influenster to try out the Yves Saint Laurent Vinyl Couture Mascara ($39). Seeing Cara rock that gorgeous bright blue mascara on the advertisement instantly made me want to try out their new mascara offering, and I received the shade #1 in I’m The Clash.

I tried this mascara two ways, with curled lashes and without, to see how it faired. Without my lashes curled, the mascara didn’t do much to lift them at all and I found it just looked rather messy. With them curled, I got a better result but I have very short, sparse lashes so most mascaras tend to not be able to do much for me and I dream of lash extensions more and more every day.

One coat of this mascara on the lashes gave a nice natural effect, but as soon as I started to layer a second coat I could instantly see that my lashes started clumping together. I ran a spoolie through them to get rid of some of the excess product but they still seemed to want to stick to each other. The formula dried extremely quickly and is very black, which is something I like about this mascara, but overall it sadly just didn’t wow me. It also has a tendency to flake and fall down onto your cheeks which I’m not a fan of.

I love the idea of having bright coloured mascara to bolden up your look, but I won’t be racing to the Sephora counter any time soon.

Have you tried the YSL Vinyl Couture mascara?

  • It’s a bummer this didn’t work out for you! I love the packaging and the look of the clear tube (which you don’t often see with mascara) but it’s all just for show if the product itself isn’t great. Considering how quickly mascara goes bad, I probably wouldn’t want to drop a ton of cash on a colored formula anyway. I definitely feel better about missing out on this campaign (as much as I love YSL).

  • It’s a bummer that this mascara didn’t work out for you. The packaging looks so beautiful, as it is with all of YSL’s products. I find that the wetter the mascara, the more clumps there is bound to happen. At least for me, that is the case. I want to take this moment to say that you have the loveliest blue eyes! (I’ve got brown eyes so *sigh*)

  • It’s such a shame this didn’t work out especially considering it’s YSL! It’s a very interesting packaging, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a mascara where you can actually see the product!
